Friday links #6

Friday, April 30th, 2010

For this Friday I thought you might like some inspiration, just to make the weekend fresh and nice. Do you have interesting plans for the next two days? We’d like to hear about them.

Here it is what I want to share with you …

55 beautifully blue web designs to inspire you and bring a little freshness. I am pretty sure you will like the collection  that Gisele Muller put together.  Here it is.

Another article posted on WebDesignLedger, 50 inspiring examples of hand drawn elements in web design. I noticed that hand drawn elements ( fonts,  illustrations, icons or navigation menus) are quite a trend this year. I think they enrich the design and make it more friendly, like a familiar place, don’t you think?

You have to see these awesome photos made by Ben Heine, I won’t tell you any more … pencil vs camera.

To end this inspirational blog post I suggest you to browse though a big list of web design projects that inserted slide shows in a very nice manner. If you have clothes to sell, or electronics you can add a nice slideshow and let your visitors discover your products. To view the examples, click here.

See you next week, till then make sure you’ll have a lot of fun.

Tuesday is for photos: Water

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Today I picked Water as a theme for my photo slideshow. I found some amazing pictures browsing through Flickr, I think you can find anything you need there in matter of photos. Hope you’ll find it interesting.

Template name: Stack photos, size: 500 x 400. View the slide show on a different page, in a bigger size. Here I added a background image.

Google login, the most popular choice

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

A colleague had a curiosity about how new members log in to our products. At the beginning we only had SnackTools login (users could create new accounts using their email and a password), then we added Facebook Connect and later  Google and Yahoo accounts.

Which one do you think people use the most? Here are the numbers for the last month (1-26 April):

  • 3781 new users logged in with Google
  • 3740 made a SnackTools account
  • 2552 used Facebook
  • and 1001 preferred Yahoo!

So Google login is the most popular, followed closely by SnackTools accounts. Before I end this short announcement, I’d like to ask you whether we should add MySpace, Twitter login or OpenID to the existing options.

Friday links #5

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Hello again! Did you spend an awesome week? For us, the week passed really really fast and everything went well.

So let me tell you what I found interesting around the web:

A showcase of beautiful navigation designs. I hope you’ll find them useful for your current and future projects. The collection made by the guys at Smashing Magazine is very inspiring, just look at it and tell us what you think.

Need some cool social media icons? I could recommend these, from Isometrica.

Have you heard about sleeveface? It’s an interesting phenomenon all over the Internet. I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen some sleeveface photos somewhere on the net. Here’s a big collection of sleeveface photos, that Web Designer Depot put together.

8 things about email that we  should all take into consideration to ease the way we communicate  through this medium. It’s a blog post with tips that perhaps you already know but perhaps don’t always apply in everyday email interactions.

To end this short article, I’ll let you watch a gorgeous gallery of landscape photos. Enjoy!

Friday links #4

How are you, friends? Hope you’re all doing well and had a nice week. I have a few things to share with you, things I think you might find interesting. Let me know what you think about them.

You all know Zappos’ story on how they raised a company using social media. Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos, an early adopter of Twitter talks in an interview about the four categories of his tweets (Inspire, Connect, Entertain and Educate) and about the importance of happiness both personally and organizationally. Read the interview here. I found it inspiring.

Just a few tips to make a better or an interesting profile picture, posted on Mashable.

Do you own a startup? Or perhaps you are planning to start a small business? I’m pretty sure you will find these six principles of a sustainable startup very interesting. My favorite is number 2.) “It takes teams to build a Sustainable Startup™”. Do you agree?

A lovely tool to play with and a challenge for your business or personal brand, from Outspoken Media. Do you remember the famous Google ad “Parisian love“? Now you can create a similar story about you or your company.

And a little inspiration to end the week posted on SixRevisions, the blog of a dear friend: 60 beautiful clean and light web designs.

What did you find worth sharing? I’m very curious to see.

Til next week, have a great time and spend it with special people. Hugs!

How to embed flash content in WordPress blogs

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

It’s known that WordPress won’t allow users to post flash content on their platform, unless they host their blogs elsewhere. However, there are a few exceptions; WordPress allows you to post *some* flash content, things like YouTube or DailyMotion videos.

What I’ve discovered is that WordPress allows you to post many other kinds of flash content on your blog.wordpress.com blog, including SnackTools widgets like banners and music playlists. You only need Gigya.

Now, there are two approaches, both very simple:
