Friday links #17

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Hi dear friends, time to leave you with with some great links and wish you a wonderful weekend.

I want to start this post with something beautiful, a showcase of macro images. “There is so much detail around us that goes unnoticed by the naked eye, but thanks to this type of photography, we get to see and appreciate all that detail”, I think Henry Jones, the author of the article is right.

There’s always place for a little inspiration and whether your interested in design or want to start your own business,  a collection of colorful logos might be interesting for you. I’d like to know if you found this useful or not.

Here is a very handy article for people owning a business or people involved in the process of promoting one on the internet: How to enhance your online presence with video. Video’s can be a great way to show customers or potential customers what you do, how you do it and why, to show your personality and to be closer to them.

This is all for today nice guys, see you next week.

Simplest way to share text and files

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I really really like this web application because it’s the best example of simplicity: Write.fm. It solves two little problems: share text and files.

See what Anthony Feint, the smart guy who developed this product (also Task.fm) has to say about it “I really focused on ease of use with this app – there are hardly any elements on the page and the only action required by the user is to start typing.   There is no need to “save” as its all done automatically”. More on his blog.

You have to try it. What do you think?

Beauty of the sea in 25 beautiful photos

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Because it’s the perfect season to talk about it and because it’s wild and beautiful, serene and mysterious, refreshing and relaxing I picked this theme for today’s photo slideshow: the sea.

Image credits are inside the photo slide show. Template used: Thumbnail wall (this is a premium template).

Wish you a fresh day and a gorgeous summer!

Friday links #16

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Time for a new collection of useful links to end well this week. How are you my friends? Did you make plans for this summer? I’d like to know if you’d like to share.

Learn how to create recognizable article thumbnails, with a great showcase of examples. I’ve learned that there are large thumbnails below title and introduction to make visual impact and square thumbnails right beside paragraphs just to give a hint about what you’ll read. There are also different techniques to make your article thumbnails, like related photo or a screenshot of the article and many more. I think it’s a good read for people interested in blogging.

Staying in the same area, design, here is a great collection of 40 examples of excellent single page websites.

Interested in fonts? Do you know what are the best calligraphy fonts that designers use in their projects? Here they are.

To end this blog post, I’ll let view these stunning black and white images. Happy, sad, funny, intriguing and fresh…

Enjoy your weekend!

Bounce – share ideas about websites

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Today I found a great and simple application called Bounce. It’s “a fun and easy way to share ideas on a website” (in their own words). Developed by Zurb, a popular web design agency that has all of our admiration, the application allows you to make a screen-shot of a site, make notes and share them with friends or customers. Simple idea, right?

I like tools like this: practical and easy to use, user friendly. This is how it works:

1. Write the URL of a website

2. They provide a screenshot in just a few moments

3. Then you can give it a name and a title, add notes (no restrictions, you can add ass many as you like)

4. Save your screenshot and notes

5. Then share them with your friends using a URL provided by Bounce or post it on Facebook or Twitter. Your friends can give you feedback.

It’s perfect for web designers that want opinions about their work  or for website owners with the same intentions. What do you think about the app?

Mesmerizing wedding photography

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Hi dear friends, how are you? We’re doing great here at the office and I wanted to surprise you this Tuesday with a gorgeous portfolio.

When we created PhotoSnack we also wanted to please and satisfy the needs of the professional photographer, that creative person that makes amazing pictures and wants to show his work in a beautiful elegant way. So I thought why not make a photo slide show like he would do it, a portfolio. Or it could be a wedding photo album that the newly weds can share with their family and friends.

These lovely photos were made by Vania and Christine from Simply Bloom Photography, dear collaborators that gave us permission to use their photos in our examples (see on this page how you can use PhotoSnack). Their work is fairytale-like, dramatic and a perfect example of timeless beauty (as people say and I totally agree). I’ll let you enjoy the slideshow and recommend you to visit their blog to see more mesmerizing wedding and engagement photos.

I hope you like what picked for today. See you soon!
