Friday links #7

May 14th, 2010

Hi there, time for some new useful links to end this week in a good mood. How was your week? We are still working on banner templates, as I told you a few days ago.

Let me get straight to the subject, to tell you what I found that’s worth checking. Smashing Magazine shares 20 fresh free fonts for your design projects. It became a habit for them to post great collections of fonts, so I’m sure that if you browse through their archive you’ll find what you need.

Need some examples on how to use photos in web design to make a statement? Six Revision thought about this subject and wrote a nice blog post this week. Check it out.

You’re a web designer… a client comes to you with a picture and tells you that he wants the feeling from that picture into his web layout. What do you? Well… you could check out what others did and read the tips published on Noupe -  How to turn anything into a website design. Smart!

Here is a list of free desktop applications that can help you if you have  a small business. Let me name a few: Jing, for easy print screens that you can share instantly, TweetDeck for Twitter, Skype, the familiar communication tool and others. I’ll let you discover them. A good alternative for desktop apps are online tools that you can access from any computer, besides you don’t have to download anything. Which one you rather prefer: desktop or online apps?

Very interesting story about a 28 years old copywriter that landed the job of his dreams using Google AdWords. How did he do it? Well, knowing that people sometimes google themselves, he chose the names of the five creative directors he most admired and made a Google AdWords campaign with their names as keywods.. And got their attention. Brilliant, don’t you think?

That’s it nice guys. Till next week, have fun and charge your batteries!
